Spray Foam Insulation Contractor

Spray foam insulation is the best choice for insulation if you’re looking to increase your comfort & decrease your energy bills. Spray foam insulation is truly the best option for home insulation and here are a few reasons why. Spray Foam Insulation provides an air barrier due to its ability to fill gaps and cracks. It is also great at staying in the hard to reach areas because of its super-adhesive qualities. Unlike fiberglass and cellulose insulation, spray foam insulation is waterproof. Water will not be able to pass through the foam which makes it an extremely durable and long-lasting product. Lastly, spray foam insulation is foolproof. Spray foam is sprayed as a liquid and then expands and hardens to fill voids and gaps. There is never any chance for an area to be missed or void to form. Once cured, spray foam insulation will stay in place for decades to come and will never shift or settle like fiberglass. To ensure your home has the best insulation available and your energy bills are low, switch to spray foam insulation today!

Blown-in & Attic Insulation

Blown-in insulation is often called blow-in or blown insulation, but it doesn’t matter what you call it. What does matter is how well it keeps your home insulated. Many people are under the impression that their attic has enough insulation, however, 9 out of 10 times it does not. In a nationwide study, it was found that the average American attic only has about 1/3 enough insulation to keep the home properly insulated. That is where blown-in insulation comes in. Blown-in insulation is blown into your attic and forms a dense layer that will ensure heat will not escape through the top of your home. Having an attic that is properly insulated can cut heating and cooling costs but up to 20%. What are you waiting for? Call or click today to schedule a FREE blown-in or attic insulation estimate!

Crawl Space Repair Experts

Crawl spaces are frequently neglected by homeowners because they are hidden away under our homes. Ignoring your home’s crawl space seems inconsequential, but disregarding your crawl space can lead to potentially critical problems. The air that flows through your home will eventually pass through your crawl space, taking with it pollen, mold spores, and various contaminants that prosper in the moist, cold, and dirty atmosphere of a vented crawl space.

In addition to leaving you and your family vulnerable to these contaminants, a vented crawl space can also result in expensive drafts that make for chilly temperatures in the higher floors. This issue is worsened by the utilization of fiberglass insulation that can become ineffective and soggy in the moist environment. These issues significantly decrease the energy efficiency of your entire home.

Luckily, The Drying Co./ThermalTec can reconstruct your crawl space so that what once was a hazard to your home becomes a resource. We provide a variety of crawl space solutions, such as:

  • Crawl Space Insulation
  • Crawl Space Encapsulation
  • Crawl Space Support Jacks
  • Crawl Space Dehumidifiers
  • And More!

Controlling Moisture in a Chesapeake, VA Crawl Space

This Chesapeake, VA homeowner reached out to us when they noticed that they had moisture problems in their crawl space.

At the inspection, we found that the vapor barrier was almost nonexistent. In the places where there was a barrier, it was wadded up leaving the majority of the ground uncovered and allowing water vapor to rise into the crawl space. Open vents allow hot humid air from outside to flood into the crawl space raising the relative humidity inside the crawl space. At 60% relative humidity the potential for mold growth occurs. Mold grows on organic materials such as the floor joists and paper backing of insulation. The air in your crawl space is pulled up into your home via the stack effect and negatively impacts the indoor air quality.

The moisture is absorbed by the wood joists and the fiberglass insulation. When wet, fiberglass insulation loses its R-value. The material is also damaged and begins to separate from itself. The more moisture it absorbs, the heavier it becomes causing it to sag and fall away from the floor joists. Saturated fiberglass holds water against the wood joists as well. At 19% wood moisture content, wood rot begins, which can cause even more serious damage to the home.

The homeowners wanted to treat the mold, replace the vapor barrier, control the moisture, and prevent the mold from coming back, so they would not have to do this project again.

For this homeowner, we recommended removing the existing vapor barrier and insulation along with any debris in the crawl space. Then treat the mold and mildew growth with an antimicrobial solution.

Next, we recommend covering the ground with a heavy-duty vapor barrier, CleanSpace, sealing the crawl space off from the earth’s moisture. We would also want to air seal the crawl space to prevent hot humid air from continuing to flood in. This is achieved by sealing all vents, the sill plate, the rim & band, and any penetrations through the foundation walls to the outside.

Then we suggest the homeowner insulate the crawl space walls with either Foamboard insulation or Closed-Cell Spray Foam. This reduces the transfer of heat through the block walls and extends the thermal barrier of the home to the floor of the crawl space, making the environment easier to control. The final piece is a dehumidifier. Without a dehumidifier, we cannot control the relative humidity leaving the opportunity for mold growth to reoccur.

With this solution to fix their crawl space, they will be able to control the humidity and moisture in their crawl space, resulting in better indoor air quality and the peace of mind that their home is protected.

If you have moisture problems in your crawl space, falling or sagging insulation, or a missing vapor barrier, The Drying Co. can help! Our highly trained Home Performance Advisors take all the time you need to discuss your concerns, do a thorough inspection, and help you develop the right plan for your home.

Hey there. My five-year old 1.5 story house is having a sweating duct issue between the first/second floor where an uninsulated duct connects to an insulated duct in a joist cavity that isn't air sealed and has attic space (i.e. outdoor air) on both sides ends of joist. Looking for confirmation that air sealing this joist from the attic space is the right way to solve the issue and if so, an looking for an estimate of how much that would cost. THANK YOU!
Vicinity of Crosstie Lane in Chesapeake
I have a two story house and on the first floor on the dining room ceiling we have some water issues. It looks like there is ac condensation coming from the ductwork in the ceiling, and it looks like it's happening along the entire ceiling along the side closest to the garage so I think there may be some insulation issues along the area between that wall/ceiling and the garage. I'm not sure though. There is definitely some warm air getting in that area from somewhere.
