Challenge
This Shacklefords, VA homeowner contacted us because they had just constructed a new three-car garage that they wanted to insulate. The garage was detached from the home, so it would not impact the comfort of the home, however, they did want to use this space for their hobbies as well, so they did not want it to be unbearably hot.
Solution
The garage is not going to be a conditioned space, so the homeowner will not need to worry about the air they are paying to heat and cool escaping through the attic. Because of this, they decided not to air seal the garage. We insulated the ceiling with R-38 batt insulation. This will help reduce the heat radiating down into the garage space. The walls were insulated with R-19 batt insulation.
